                         Port Hand Mark                                         Starboard Hand Mark


Function and Purpose:

Port and starboard hand marks are placed on the left and right sides of the channel, respectively, to indicate the lateral boundaries of the channel. Vessels proceeding in the direction of the channel should pass with the port hand mark on their port (left) side and the starboard hand mark on their starboard (right) side.
