Coastal Light Beacon / Lighthouse

Function and Purpose:
Generally installed on shore near channels, in shallow waters, on isolated reefs, or on breakwaters near harbors, commonly used for harbor shelter and navigation. Most light beacons are unmanned, with a simpler structure than lighthouses, typically of columnar or steel-frame construction. Light beacons have relatively low light intensity and generally have no characteristic of first visibility or first disappearance. The charted position of a light beacon is accurate, making it a reliable terrestrial landmark for positioning.
